Electric, Attack DMG dealer

Harumasa from Zenless Zone Zero with a Kaption Polish subtitle
Polish subtitles for Zenless Zone Zero dialogue work today.

At a glance

Harumasa is an Electric Attack damage dealer who builds Electro Prison stacks on enemies, then spends them on rapid slashes. His strongest sequence starts with Electro Quivers and turns into repeated Electric Dash Attacks against marked targets.

He wants a Stun or Anomaly teammate to activate Additional Ability: Overclock. Against Stunned enemies or enemies under Attribute Anomaly, it increases his damage and helps him apply Electro Prison. His own attacks remain useful between those windows, but the extra stacks make his setup easier.

Guide

How the kit works

Start by creating Electro Quivers. The fifth hit of Basic Attack: Cloud Piercer creates two when it hits an enemy. EX Special Attack: Nowhere to Run (Special) creates six when its enhanced arrow hits an enemy or the ground. Chain Attack: Kai - Hanare also creates six when its arrow hits the ground. After a Chain Attack, the next fifth Basic Attack hit creates six instead of two.

Hold after the fifth Basic Attack hit, a Special Attack, an EX Special Attack or a Chain Attack to fire Basic Attack: Falling Feather. You can also hold to aim and release. When Falling Feather hits an enemy while Quivers are present, Basic Attack: Ha-Oto no Ya activates them and applies Electro Prison. A target with at least two stacks becomes X-Marked. There can be six Quivers on the field and, at base, eight Electro Prison stacks on a target.

With an X-Marked enemy present, Harumasa enters Awakened. This replaces Dash Attack: Hiten no Tsuru with Dash Attack: Hiten no Tsuru - Slash. Use the slash during a dodge, or press after Falling Feather for a quick follow-up. Each hit consumes two Electro Prison stacks, so keep attacking while the mark remains. The slash reduces damage taken by 40%, but does not make him invulnerable.

Core Passive: Day Break gives that slash 25% CRIT Rate. Its critical hits grant Gleaming Edge, up to six stacks, each adding 12% CRIT DMG to the slash for 5 seconds. If no Quivers are present when a squad member applies an Attribute Anomaly, six appear; this can happen once every 12 seconds.

Build and why

Use four pieces of Shadow Harmony for the Dash Attack damage and the ATK and CRIT Rate gained from attribute-matching Dash Attack hits. Two pieces of Woodpecker Electro add 8% CRIT Rate. The game's recommended alternative is four pieces of Thunder Metal with two of Woodpecker Electro: Thunder Metal gives Electric DMG and 28% ATK while an enemy in combat is Shocked.

Branch & Blade Song is another option, especially as a two-piece source of 16% CRIT DMG. Its four-piece bonuses ask for at least 115 Anomaly Mastery and a teammate applying Freeze or triggering Shatter, so check whether your team and stats meet those conditions.

For disc 4, choose CRIT Rate or CRIT DMG. Use Electric DMG Bonus or Percent ATK on disc 5 and Percent ATK on disc 6. Among substats, look for CRIT Rate first, then Percent ATK and CRIT DMG. Day Break already gives the marked slash extra CRIT Rate, so consider that when balancing your stats.

Zanshin Herb Case is the first weapon choice: it gives CRIT Rate and increases Electric Dash Attack damage. Cordis Germina is another strong option, with CRIT Rate and Electric DMG from Basic Attack or EX Special Attack hits. Its DEF ignore applies to Basic Attack and Ultimate damage, not the marked slash. The Brimstone is an alternative that builds ATK stacks through hits.

Leveling priority

Follow the game's order: Core Passive: Day Break first, then Dodge, Chain Attack, Basic Attack, Special Attack and Assist. Day Break supports the marked slash, while Dodge includes the slash itself. Chain Attack supplies Quivers for the sequence.

For maximum ascension, gather 800,000 Denny, 4 Basic Attack Certification Seal, 32 Advanced Attack Certification Seal and 30 Pioneer's Certification Seal.

For all skills, gather 2,905,000 Denny, 25 Basic Shock Chip, 75 Advanced Shock Chip, 250 Specialized Shock Chip, 5 Hamster Cage Pass, 9 Sycophant's Refinement and 60 Higher Dimensional Data: Thunderous Dragon. These skill costs are separate from ascension.

Mindscapes worth it

High Spirit (M1) is a useful early upgrade to consider. It raises the Electro Prison limit from eight to 14 and makes each triggered Quiver fire two consecutive shots. More stacks give you more room to use the marked slash.

Languish (M2) is another notable option. After a Chain Attack or Ultimate, it grants seven Electro Blitz stacks. While any remain, the marked slash deals 50% more damage and consumes one stack when it ends. Occasionally Motivated extends Electro Prison to 20 seconds and applies the maximum stacks to all on-field enemies when you activate an Ultimate.

Tacit Understanding is worth considering for its extra damage: after Ha-Oto no Ya hits a Stunned enemy or one under Attribute Anomaly, Harumasa ignores 15% of that target's Electric RES for 12 seconds. Every 12 hits also trigger an explosion. White Lies and No One Knows add skill levels, so you can skip them if you are stopping before the later upgrades.

Teams

Bring a Stun or Anomaly character to enable Additional Ability: Overclock. Once an enemy is Stunned or under Attribute Anomaly, Harumasa's attacks deal 40% more damage, and Falling Feather applies two Electro Prison stacks. A teammate applying an Anomaly can also generate Quivers when none are on the field.

Trigger or Pulchra can fill the Stun slot. Add Rina or Nicole as Support, for example Harumasa, Trigger and Rina, or Harumasa, Pulchra and Nicole. Grace is an Electric Anomaly option if you prefer to build around Attribute Anomaly. An Electric teammate also fits a Thunder Metal setup that wants a Shocked enemy.

Harumasa brings the team's Electric Attack damage. His Defensive Assist: Yugamae can parry an incoming attack and deal Daze, followed by Assist Follow-Up: Yugamae - Slash for Electric damage.

Common mistakes

Do not fire Falling Feather and immediately expect repeated slashes without checking the target. You need an X-Marked enemy, and each slash spends two Electro Prison stacks. Create Quivers first and hit the enemy with Falling Feather to apply the mark.

Do not treat the marked slash as an invulnerable move. Its damage reduction helps, but you can still take damage. Use Dodge: Quick Flash or Dodge Counter: Hidden Edge when you need their invulnerability.

Do not assume Thunder Metal's four-piece ATK bonus is always active: an enemy in combat must be Shocked. Likewise, Overclock needs a Stun or Anomaly teammate, and its damage bonus needs a Stunned enemy or one under Attribute Anomaly.
