Guide
How the kit works
Before a fight, Devour: O Loathsome Hand applies Daze to enemies in an area for 10 seconds. Attack a Dazed enemy to enter combat, deal Lightning DMG equal to 100% of Ashveil’s ATK to all enemies and gain 1 Charge.
Use Flog: Smite Evil to choose the Bait and deal 200% ATK as Lightning DMG. If that enemy is already the Bait, the Skill deals another 100% ATK as Lightning DMG and recovers 1 Skill Point. When no Bait is on the field, the enemy with the lowest HP becomes the Bait automatically; only the latest mark applies.
Have allies attack the Bait while Ashveil has Charge. Rancor: Enmity Reprisal regenerates 8 Energy, consumes 1 Charge and launches a Follow-Up ATK for 200% ATK as Lightning DMG. It then grants 2 Gluttony stacks. Ashveil starts with 2 Charge, can hold 3, and can hold up to 12 Gluttony.
Banquet: Insatiable Appetite marks a target, deals 400% ATK as Lightning DMG and immediately launches an enhanced Talent Follow-Up ATK without consuming Charge. It also grants 3 Charge. The enhanced attack consumes Gluttony in groups of 4 for extra hits of 200% ATK as Lightning DMG. If a hit kills its target, the attack can continue against a new Bait until fewer than 4 stacks remain.
The passive Damnation Trail grants 1 Gluttony stack on Skill use and 2 on Ultimate use, plus 1 for each enemy killed during Ashveil’s Follow-Up ATK. Phantom Limb increases his Follow-Up ATK DMG by 80%, plus 10% per Gluttony stack held. Talons: Inculcate Decorum deals 100% ATK as Lightning DMG to one enemy.
Build and why
Use four pieces of The Ashblazing Grand Duke. Two pieces increase Follow-Up ATK DMG by 20%; four pieces grant 6% ATK for each instance of damage in a Follow-Up ATK, up to eight stacks. The effect lasts three turns and is removed the next time the wearer uses a Follow-Up ATK.
For the planar set, City of Converging Stars grants 24% ATK for two turns after a Follow-Up ATK. An enemy defeat also gives all allies 12% CRIT DMG for the current battle. Duran, Dynasty of Running Wolves is an alternative for teams using Follow-Up ATKs: its Merit stacks raise their wearer’s Follow-Up ATK DMG and, at five stacks, CRIT DMG.
Choose CRIT Rate or CRIT DMG on the body, SPD or ATK Percentage on the feet, Lightning DMG Boost or ATK Percentage on the sphere, and ATK Percentage or Energy Regeneration Rate on the rope. The listed substat order is SPD, CRIT DMG, CRIT Rate, then ATK Percentage.
The Finale of a Lie is the first weapon choice. It gives CRIT Rate and, while Umbra Devourer is active, ATK and increased DMG taken by all enemies. Baptism of Pure Thought is next: its Ultimate effect raises DMG and lets Follow-Up ATKs ignore some DEF. Worrisome, Blissful boosts Follow-Up ATK DMG and applies Tame, which raises allies’ CRIT DMG against that target. Cruising in the Stellar Sea is another option.
Leveling priority
Follow the game’s order: level the Ultimate first, then Talent, Skill and Basic ATK. The Ultimate provides the enhanced Follow-Up ATK and spends Gluttony for extra hits. Talent comes next because it powers the attacks triggered by allies. Skill also marks the Bait, while Basic ATK is the last priority.
For maximum ascension, gather 308,000 Credit, 65 Thunder Strum, 15 Whimsy Wax, 15 Dreamweave Steel and 15 Lucid Awl.
For all skills, gather 3,000,000 Credit, 8 Tracks of Destiny, 18 Grit of Strife, 69 Resin of Valor, 139 Lance of Retribution, 12 Vanquished Flow's Reticence, 41 Whimsy Wax, 56 Dreamweave Steel and 58 Lucid Awl.
Eidolons worth it
Finale: And Then There Were None is worth considering for its damage increase: while a Bait exists, all enemies lose 20% All-Type RES. It also raises Ashveil’s DMG by 4% for each Gluttony stack gained, up to 30 stacks.
Knock: Where Snickers Echo raises the Gluttony limit to 18 and refunds 35% of the stacks removed after each enhanced Talent Follow-Up ATK. Beware: Venture Not at Full Moon makes all enemies take 24% more DMG, rising to 36% when their current HP is at or below 50%.
Stopping at E1 or E2 is a reasonable option if you do not want later Eidolons. Hush: Unsaid Between Friends and Caution: Sleuth Turns Slayer raise skill levels, while Heed: Swallow Truth Whole gives 40% ATK for three turns after Ultimate.
Teams
Bring allies who can attack the Bait, plus someone to keep the team alive. Follow-Up ATK characters can also use the extra CRIT DMG from Ashveil’s passive. His team damage support is not limited to Lightning characters.
Common mistakes
Do not spread allied attacks away from the Bait without a reason. Ashveil’s Talent follows attacks on that marked target, and it needs Charge for its Follow-Up ATK. Watch the Charge limit when using Ultimate, which grants three.
Do not confuse Charge with Gluttony. Charge is spent on Talent Follow-Up ATKs after allied attacks; Gluttony fuels extra hits in the enhanced Ultimate Follow-Up ATK. The Ultimate still marks a target and deals damage even if you have fewer than four Gluttony stacks.
Do not assume every Skill use recovers a Skill Point. That refund and the extra damage apply when the target was already the Bait. Also remember that a defeated Bait is automatically replaced by the enemy with the lowest HP.
