Herta from Honkai: Star Rail with a Kaption Polish subtitle
How Kaption shows Herta in Polish: "Powiem to jeszcze raz. Nie obchodzi mnie, co Ruan Mei ci powiedziała, ale nie ma mowy, żebyśmy wyłączyli Simulated Universe!"

At a glance

Herta is a 4-star Ice Erudition damage dealer who is at her best against groups. Her Skill and Ultimate hit every enemy, and her Talent launches a Follow-Up ATK when an ally's attack brings an enemy to 50% HP or lower.

That threshold gives the team another way to damage the whole field during a fight. Herta can still attack one target, but a lone enemy gives her fewer targets for her area damage.

Guide

How the kit works

Before a fight, use It Can Still Be Optimized to raise Herta's ATK by 40% for the first 3 turns of the next battle. Once in battle, One-Time Offer deals Ice DMG equal to 100% of her ATK to all enemies at the values shown here. It deals 20% more DMG to targets at 50% HP or higher. Her Efficiency Trace increases that DMG Boost effect by an extra 25%.

Watch enemy HP as the team attacks. Fine, I'll Do It Myself triggers when an ally's attack causes an enemy's HP percentage to fall to 50% or lower. Herta then deals Ice DMG equal to 40% of her ATK to all enemies as a Follow-Up ATK.

Use It's Magic, I Added Some Magic for an all-enemy hit equal to 200% of Herta's ATK. Her Icing Trace makes it deal 20% more DMG to Frozen enemies. What Are You Looking At? deals 100% of her ATK as Ice DMG to one enemy; use it when you need a single-target attack.

Build and why

For the four-piece relic set, start with Hunter of Glacial Forest. Its two-piece bonus gives 10% Ice DMG, while its four-piece bonus grants 25% CRIT DMG for 2 turns after Herta uses her Ultimate. The Ashblazing Grand Duke is another option focused on her Follow-Up ATK: its two-piece bonus gives that attack 20% more DMG, and its four-piece bonus builds ATK as the Follow-Up ATK deals damage.

For planar ornaments, Sigonia, the Unclaimed Desolation gives 4% CRIT Rate and gains 4% CRIT DMG per defeated enemy, up to 10 stacks. Inert Salsotto is another option: at 50% CRIT Rate, it boosts Ultimate and Follow-Up ATK DMG by 15%.

Before Dawn is the first weapon choice. It gives CRIT DMG, boosts Skill and Ultimate DMG, and strengthens a Follow-Up ATK after Herta uses either of those abilities. Night on the Milky Way comes next: it gains ATK for enemies on the field and grants a DMG boost when an enemy suffers Weakness Break. Yet Hope Is Priceless gives CRIT Rate and can boost Follow-Up ATK DMG based on CRIT DMG above 120%.

Use CRIT Rate or CRIT DMG on the body, ATK Percentage or SPD on the feet, Ice DMG Boost or ATK Percentage on the sphere, and ATK Percentage or Energy Regeneration Rate on the rope. For substats, prioritize CRIT Rate, then CRIT DMG, ATK Percentage and SPD. Account for Herta's E2 CRIT Rate stacks if you have them.

Leveling priority

Follow the game's leveling order: Fine, I'll Do It Myself first, then One-Time Offer, It's Magic, I Added Some Magic, and What Are You Looking At?. The Talent comes first because its Follow-Up ATK can hit the whole field outside Herta's own turn. The Skill and Ultimate are also area attacks, while the Basic hits one target.

For ascension, you need Credit, Horn of Snow, Extinguished Core, Glimmering Core and Squirming Core. Skill upgrades also use Credit and the three Core materials, along with Tracks of Destiny, Key of Inspiration, Key of Knowledge, Key of Wisdom and Destroyer's Final Road.

Eidolons worth it

As a suggested order, consider Keep the Ball Rolling first. Each Talent trigger grants 3% CRIT Rate, up to 5 stacks. It rewards the attacks Herta already wants to trigger, though you should account for those stacks when choosing gear.

Hit Where It Hurts is another useful target: it increases DMG by 10% when the Talent triggers. After that, consider No One Can Betray Me, which grants 25% ATK for 1 turn after the Ultimate.

You can stop at E2 if you do not need the later upgrades. E1 improves the Basic against a target at 50% HP or less, while E3 and E5 raise skill levels rather than adding a new mechanic. E5 still raises both the Ultimate and Talent levels, so it is not useless if you reach it.

Teams

Herta wants allies who attack enemies and help bring their HP down to her Talent's threshold. She gives the team an Ice area Follow-Up ATK in return. A buffer and a sustain character are useful partners around the damage dealers.

Common mistakes

Do not expect every hit on an enemy below half HP to trigger Herta's Follow-Up ATK. The Talent checks whether an ally's attack causes the enemy's HP percentage to fall to 50% or lower. Watch the threshold instead of treating the attack as automatic.

Do not ignore CRIT Rate when using Inert Salsotto: its Ultimate and Follow-Up ATK bonus needs at least 50% current CRIT Rate. Also remember that Hunter of Glacial Forest grants its four-piece CRIT DMG bonus after the Ultimate, not before that Ultimate hits.

Do not assume Herta can Freeze enemies with the kit listed here. Her Icing Trace rewards hitting Frozen enemies with her Ultimate, but her listed skills do not apply Frozen. Puppet helps resist Crowd Control debuffs; its 35% resistance chance does not make her immune.
